Apollo is a very special little Chihuahua mix. He was found in an abandoned house in Detroit. Last January MACS received a tip that some kids were storing dogs there, to be used as “bait” in fights later the same week. When our rescue van arrived they found only this little guy, alone, freezing cold and very scared, among the garbage left in the house.
Apollo was scared and nervous about people. He had a very bad tooth infection and needed medication before he could be further evaluated. There’s no telling what he went through while being in that house. Since his rescue, he has been living with us at the shelter and we have gotten to know him very well.
Our little guy takes a while to warm up to new people. Our shelter staff worked with him for several days before he was comfortable enough for us to hold him, probably because of his mistreatment before we found him.
Apollo is about 5 years old. He weighs around 12 lbs and has been castrated and is up to date on his shots and heartworm medication. He does not like other animals, and would prefer to be the “only child” in the house. Ideally Apollo would live in a quiet home without children, even those who visit on a regular basis, because he is so nervous around them, and may accidentally bite.
For more information about Apollo, please call the shelter adoption line during adoption hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 to 3 pm, at 313-891-1088. You can email inquiries to info@macsshelter.org. A short video of Apollo can be viewed on Petfinder by clicking here.
Please note, we are looking for Apollo’s forever home. He is quite spoiled and we will miss him dearly when he goes home, but we are happy to house him until we find the right place for him.
